Salary and benefits:

The world of work is constantly changing, and we have an exciting strategic opportunity for a Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) lead to join us.

The role holder will lead and develop the building and implementing a strategic workforce plan which is pivotal to Phoenix's future success.

This role will need to combine embedding the foundations of workforce planning design and activity, alongside deliver the piloting of strategic workforce planning across the business.

The role will report into the Head of People Strategy, Analytics & Technology.

Through this role Phoenix are looking to deliver:

  • Greater visibility on what capabilities exist in the organisation vs. what is required, alongside the predicted time horizon.
  • Enable robust conversations and definitions to be developed on the real future skills and capabilities required to execute on the future business strategy & vision.
  • Accurate longer term (3 year +) predictions that can feed into the budgeting process, providing a more precise view of costs/savings
  • Enhanced planning for downstream crossfunctional activities to meet the changing needs of the workforce (e.g Talent Acquisition, Premises, IT).
  • Embed a collaborative and coordinated cross function team that will reduce duplication of effort, current pain points alongside deliver better people cost management.

The role:


  • Lead a crossfunctional team to (i) work on 'cleaning and readying' the core workforce data architecture and integrity, (ii) enhance and establish appropriate workforce data controls to better support the next business planning cycle, (iii) establish a robust current state workforce view and (iv) in parallel start to develop longer term SWP methodology and define deeper career family framework (likely leveraging external best practice taxonomies).
  • Partner with the business to deliver the piloting of the long term focused Strategic Workforce Planning process including starting to build & test the future capability/skill frameworks to inform future demand needs, alongside develop high level talent plans to form part of the business planning cycles
  • Provide expertise and thought leadership in how to interpret and use external market trend organisational data and internal analysis
  • Partner with key stakeholders to define the right short and longer term technology / visualisation tooling to support SWP alongside define and agree a standardised taxonomy of critical strategic capabilities that captures both current and future demand that needs to be built
  • Build out an organisation wide roll out and deployment plan for Strategic Workforce Planning, focussed on embedding the newly developed approach and organisational capability

What we're looking for:


  • Extensive workforce planning experience, covering both operational and strategic components
  • Pragmatic, practical and able to understand and interpret a wide range of quantitative and qualitative data and insight, drawing clear and objective conclusions which lead to actionable recommendation's
  • Ability to think and operate with a strategic mindset, with experience in identifying and understanding the organisation's strategy and goals, and understanding how to translate these into talent and capability needs
  • Senior level stakeholder engagement along with effective verbal and written communication, and experience of working across functional (e.g. HR, Finance, IT) teams
  • Strong change management skills with demonstrated ability to
