Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff.

Our Pharmacy department employs over 130 staff delivering high quality clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services. Due to service expansion we are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and committed pharmacy assistants to join our friendly team.

Posts available are full time and part time.

You will be required to participate in early/late, weekend and bank holiday rotas, and be willing to work across all sites of our Trust.

Goods receipt from suppliers:

unpacking, checking against documentation; receipt onto pharmacy IT stock management system

  • Storing goods appropriately including cold chain and restricted items.
  • Rotate stock to minimise waste
  • Ensure work area is kept clean, tidy and de-cluttered
  • Process stock returns and manage waste according to the trust policy
  • Issue stock to wards and departments
  • Assist in the packaging and delivery of goods to ward and departments.
  • To answer the telephones and to deal with clients, nurses and other hospital staff in a helpful, efficient and courteous manner.
  • Maintain relevant records of work undertaken including computer records.
  • Co-operate with pharmaceutical staff in all parts of the Trust, to the benefit of the service as a whole
  • Receive, record and assist with prioritisation of prescriptions into the dispensary.
  • Record prescriptions onto the Prescription tracking System (PTS)
  • File/retrieve prescriptions and records as required.
  • Assemble emergency boxes and maintain appropriate records.
