The aim of this clinical fellowship is to support the development of independent Consultant practice in Shoulder and Elbow surgery.

The Fellow will be expected to attend the theatre sessions of all three upper limb consultants and participate in appropriate clinics and MDT sessions.

The workload of the upper limb unit supports "hands-on" experience and supported training in the specialty.

Medway NHS Foundation Trust is the largest acute trust and district general hospital in Kent. We have a proud history, originating in 1905 when a Royal Naval Hospital was opened on the site.

We continue to expand and modernise the array of services on offer to the people of the Medway towns, Swale and the wider West Kent region.

Medway is an Associated University Hospital with strong links to the Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical Schools.

This appointment is intended for a senior orthopaedic trainee who has a specialist interest in Upper Limb surgery. The Fellow will have a busy and broad clinical workload across both elective and traumatic Upper Limb surgery.

Elective training opportunitites regularly include shoulder arthroplasty and arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery, and also open and arthroscopic elbow surgery.

The Upper Limb Unit is committed to the timely management of complex upper limb fractures and injuries, with dedicated trauma theatre sessions.

The principal Clinical Supervisor is Professor Bijayendra Singh, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. In addition, the fellow will work in the Upper Limb Unit with Professor Amit Tolat and Mr Howard Cottam.

There are no on call commitments associated with this fellowship.

There may, however, opportunities to cover extra shifts and weekend lists to supplement income and experience at the fellow's discretion.

Additionally, the Fellow would be expected to undertake clinical research around the practice of the consultants.

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at Medway Maritime Hospital is known to produce high quality research presented at international and national conferences and onward to publications.

The fellow is expected to present Upper Limb Unit research at national and international level.
