Job overview:

The post holder will take a lead role in the advanced clinical assessment and treatment of a diverse and undetermined caseload of patients, who may have highly complex and/or chronic presentation.

They will determine clinical diagnosis and treatments indicated, and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. The post holder will provide clinical expertise for developing and enhancing the service. This will be done in collaboration with healthcare colleagues.

They will ensure that evidence based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment and ensure this knowledge is disseminated throughout the clinical area, Trust and externally as appropriate.


Main duties of the job:


Working in a busy ED apartment as a qualified ACP working in all areas of the department including adult and paediatrics whilst developing the four pillars of advanced practice.

With a view of completing the RCEM credentialing process.

The contracted hours will be divided into clinical and personal professional development time.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

Essential criteria:


  • Registration with governing body
  • ALS/APLS
  • Prescribing Qualification
  • Minimal 5 years post registration ED experience
  • Substantial experience at band 7 TACP role in ED
  • Evidence of effective change management
  • Demonstrate a high level of awareness and understanding in the speciality of emergency medicine
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audit
  • Demonstrate a wide knowledge base and clinical competence in the speciality of emergency medicine
  • Masters in Advanced Practice

  • Experience of regular management/leadership within the emergency department
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Ability to think logically, to make decision, copes with stress, and work with all levels of stress

  • Trauma Training (ATNC/TNCC or equivalent)
