  • ABOUT US
  • The Institute of Inner-City Learning (IICL) is one of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David's four Institutes with campuses in Birmingham and London. IICL has multiple intakes per annum, delivers continuous learning, teaching and recruitment cycles and operates in an intensely competitive innercity and multicultural HE environment. The Institute currently has approx. 4,000 nonresidential students on Certificates of Higher Education, Honours degrees, Masters and Doctoral programmes, some of which are also taught at weekends.
  • THE ROLE
  • The post holder will be a member of the Assessment team and will be responsible for ensuring assessments are conducted and results tracked in compliance with policies of the University and other relevant regulatory bodies.
The post holder will focus on coordinating assessments for learners across programmes.

This will include but will not be limited to:

setting assessment timetables with lecturing staff; coordination of the assignment submission process; data management for all assignment marks, including ensuring accurate entry of marks; preparation for the Examining Board process; ensuring student records are complete, accurate, and in compliance with GDPR standards; and communication with central departments and colleagues at other delivery locations.

The post holder will be required to work within the Assessment Team, for the equivalent of 3 days a week, to include Saturday and Sunday, as well as working closely with other student-facing professional teams, lecturing staff and colleagues as appropriate to ensure work is completed efficiently and effectively.

The role also requires the post holder to be able to work independently and use initiative with the self-motivation to meet deadlines.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and be able to prioritise conflicting demands.

A proficiency in the use of Microsoft packages and a high level of attention to detail are important aspects of the post.

Please note the hours for this role will be across the weekend and one weekday.
The scope of this role is wide ranging and will include the following:

  • Supporting students in order to ensure they have complete, accurate and timely information regarding their assignment submission processes, progression and graduation
  • Maintaining the Assessment Team's presence on the Student Help Desk or similar arrangements Coordinating the assessment submission timetable for every term of study alongside academic staff
  • Ensuring that the virtual learning environment (Moodle or similar), is kept uptodate with submission portals and assessment briefs for all taught modules and that all students have appropriate access
  • Collecting, inputting and maintaining accurate student data and producing management information as necessary
  • Preparing resources for both internal and external moderation of module marks
  • Preparing student profiles for Examining Boards
  • Providing effective and efficient administrative support to Examining Boards
  • Liaising with relevant colleagues, including the Academic Office and Registry, as appropriate
  • Supporting the QA Unit in the investigation of academic misconduct and the completion and submission of any relevant academic misconduct investigation files
  • Producing relevant reports for colleagues on assessment matters
  • Providing relevant information to students relating to their assessment cycle;
  • Ensuring that all data is provided in a timely manner to maintain the University's Quality Assurance processes and standards
  • Adhering to all relevant processes and procedures as outlined in the UWTSD Academic Quality Handbook
  • Any other duties as commensurate with the level of the role
  • ABOUT YOU
  • You should have:
  • Good level of general education
  • Previous administrative experience in a fastpaced environment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Evidence of the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • IT literate possessing knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Able to work as part of a team and in partnership with others
