Primary purpose and function of position:
A Machine Operator is responsible for various day-to-day functions, from set-up and loading to operating machinery with efficiency.

They ensure the machine's performance allows every aspect of production to run smoothly, undertaking daily / weekly / monthly activities for the Packaging Department to meet KPI requirements for cost, quality, service and behaviours through agreed ways of working.

Education:
English & Mathematics Standard Grades or equivalent.

Experience:
Repair skills, Packaging and or Engineering based qualifications or experience preferred but not necessary


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate packaging equipment in order to ensure the department delivers finished goods of the right quality, at the right time and at the right cost to the logistics department
  • Carry out product and process quality checks and changeovers to quality standards and SOP's (Standard Operator Procedures) whilst minimizing the impact to the production plan
  • Take pride in the cleanliness of their machine and area
  • Undertake departmentrun and selfdriven continuous improvement activities to ensure the department meets all its KPI (Key Performance Indicators) Targets
  • Inspect, clean and maintain equipment to ensure everything works as it should
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic machine issues
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians to determine the root cause and eliminate issues.
  • Escalate issues via VPO processes and communicate effectively with FLM's and maintenance teams regarding recurring problems and needs for repair
  • Undertake training for new skills & tasks within Packaging Department. Upskill others to drive toward an autonomous high performing team.
  • Undertake any packaging related tasks, as directed by the First Line Manager

Machine operators to comply with:

  • Statutory & Legal requirements
  • Safety, Health & Environment requirements
  • Any appropriate packaging or food hygiene safety regulations as defined by policy or legislation, such as HACCP
  • Product & Process Quality requirements
  • Basic asset care requirements

  • From Bright Beer Tanks to final packaged product
