Specific Accountabilities

  • To survey premises and sites, prepare and lay baits or traps for the control of rodents/vermin, in domestic premises, Council premises, sewers, commercial and industrial premises or land, watercourses, canals, etc.
  • To identify a wide range of pests.
  • To lay baits, insecticidal powder, fumigate and spray for certain insects (including bed bugs, fleas, wasps, ants, cockroaches and other insect pests which have a public health significance).
  • To carry out the appropriate number of followup treatments for the above.
  • To observe safe working practices and conform with appropriate codes of practice to protect the health and safety of the occupants of premises and employees in industrial or commercial premises.
  • To interpret and implement changes to systems of work to comply with changing legislation and codes of practice.
  • To maintain equipment and accommodation, prepare and mix baits, secure poisons in vehicles, poisons room and poisons store.
  • To maintain the vehicle provided in a clean, safe and tidy manner and drive it safely, economically and appropriately and to record journeys (mileage and time).
  • To undertake activities aimed at promoting the Council's commercial pest treatment service through the identification and securing of new and potential contracts, including preparing quotations and contract documentation.
  • To maintain records of visits made, position and quantities of bait used and the time taken in accordance with instruction using a hand held device.
  • To manage sensitive and confidential customer information with discretion and in line with the Council's data management policies.
  • To disinfest and disinfect buildings, furnishings (including soft furnishings), bedding and clothing.
  • To test and inspect drains.
  • To have knowledge of behaviour patterns, life cycles and breeding habits of pests in order to determine appropriate means of controlling pests.
  • To remove and dispose of pest waste and any unused pesticides on completion of treatment by approved methods.
  • To advise householders or the occupiers of commercial or industrial premises on the safe control of rodents and insects and the proofing of buildings.
  • To undertake work outside of normal working hours to lay or remove pesticides in certain categories of premises.
  • To undertake any other such reasonable duties that may be allocated.
  • In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all employees must be flexible in their approach and undertake other duties that are commensurate with the post holder's level, wherever they may be, to achieve the objectives of the Directorate.
  • All employees must ensure that they carry out their responsibilities with due regard for the Health and Safety regulations.

Key Accountabilities:

  • In addition to all the responsibilities listed above, all employees must be flexible in their approach and undertake other duties that are commensurate with post holder's level, wherever they may be, to achieve the objectives of the Directorate.
  • To represent the Council and Directorate in a professional manner meeting the Corporate and Directorate aims. To comply with Directorate and Corporate policies.
  • If appropriate to be responsible for the recruitment and performance management of designated teams and individuals in accordance with Corporate and Directorate aims and management style.
  • To comply with the council's financial regulation and standing orders.
  • To actively promote Dudley's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults at a level appropriate to this group.
  • Employees must comply with health and safety legislation and will be required to comply with the Council's Health and Safety Policies. All employees must ensure that they take reasonable care of their own health and safety as well as the health and safetyof any person that is affected by their actions.
