We are a busy 29 bedded cardiology ward and 12 bedded Coronary Care Unit with a reputation for providing high standards of patient care.

We take direct admissions from A&E, the Medical Assessment Unit and other in patient areas.

The unit is friendly, progressive and is committed to ensuring high quality care for a variety of acute cardiac patients.

Job Description - SENIOR HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT (Band 3)

RESPONSIBLE TO WARD MANAGER - WORKS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A REGISTERED NURSE


JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for providing a range of support services within the Cardiac Unit including clinical, clerical and axillary duties.


QUALIFICATIONS
NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Health Care


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PRACTICE
To safely support trained and junior staff as 'third on' when required

To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in providing holistic care to the cardiac patient.


To undertake expanded role duties in line with trust policy and protocols, e.g.,venepuncture, blood capillary monitoring, ECG recording and patient observations.

To accurately and appropriately report back to senior colleagues regarding changes in patient's condition.

To document care given in nursing records accurately and appropriately in accordance with the NMC guidelines (note all entries to be countersigned by a trained member of staff)

To prepare and assist the MDT during clinical procedures, i.e. catherization, CVP insertion and cardioversion.

To support patients throughout their stay on the unit and during clinical procedures.

EDUCATION/DEVELOPMENT

To develop one's own knowledge and practice as an ongoing concern and maintain a personal development plan.

To assist in the training and development of junior colleagues on an informal basis.

To contribute to one's own development and the development of the unit including participation at ward meetings.


PROFESSIONAL
To assist in maintaining appropriate stock balance and using resources efficiently

To establish and maintain effective communication with the health care team, patients and significant others.

To ensure hospital policy and Cardiac Unit's policies are adhered to.

To assist in data collection for ward audits
