Your new role, what's involved?

  • Inspection of highway infrastructure (detailed, safety and general inspections of carriageways drainage and street furniture).
  • Preparation of reports, including CAT 1, logging defects in a computerbased record system.
  • Assessment and ordering remedial works using computerised ordering system.
  • Overseeing, planning and programming cyclic and planned maintenance works.
  • Organisation of pavement condition surveys and assessing data.
  • Managing the Term Maintenance Contract, monitoring and reporting performance, overseeing, and the supervision and checking of works.
  • Production of budgets and estimates, monitoring and reporting on expenditure. Verifying Contractor's valuations.
  • Monitoring all necessary inspections are ensuring they are undertaken and recorded for pavement, structures, geotechnical and street lighting.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Welfare and CDM Responsibilities and of other company procedures.
  • Liaison with emergency services, National Highways and highway authorities and public on operational matters.
  • Part of a team responsible to give cover for weekend and Public Holiday working for safety patrols.
  • Developing and maintaining effective team working across the site team and other areas of the WSP organisation to ensure the delivery of the full range of services to the Client
  • Night time inspections of infrastructure and contractors work.
  • Network Occupancy Management Plans, Schedule of Road Works & Road Space Booking, managing, supervision and assisting of National Highways procedures.
  • Selfmanage delivery of projects or small programmes of work.
  • Support and coach less experienced team members.
  • Supervision of emergency and winter events/incidents.
  • To be on call out of office hours on a rota basis.
  • Supervision, monitoring and management of contractors
Any other duties commensurate with the role. Please note this is a role based out on site and working from home can't be facilitated.

We'd love to hear from you if you have: Qualifications**:

  • A degree or equivalent in civil engineering or other relevant discipline (Or demonstrable experience)
  • Membership or working towards membership of a chartered/incorporated status (or equivalent) of a relevant professional institution.

Experience required:


  • Previous experience in highway maintenance, emergency, and winter operations.
  • Able to prepare technical designs or drawings with the use of CAD desirable.
  • Organising teams in a small team environment.
  • Team and project management.
  • Desirable use of National Highways SRW & HAPMS systems.
