An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Childrens Hospital Community Paediatric Department for a 12 month fixed term or secondment PPA (Patient Pathway Administrator) position.


We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic person who will be responsible for the audio typing and transcription of our ASD reports and clinical correspondence across all specialties within the Directorate.

To be responsible for the audio typing and transcription of all clinical correspondence across all specialties within the Directorate but in particular ASD reports.


The post holder will be expected to ensure all clinical correspondence is typed and processed within specified timescales and will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to the job, providing typing support for the specialty.

The post holder will need fast and accurate audio typing skills and a sound knowledge of medical terminology.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


Accurately transcribing from Winscribe digital dictation and Winscribe Speech Recognition digital dictation, outpatient clinic letters, reports and miscellaneous clinical correspondence to a high standard with specified timescales.

Responsible for the production of discharge summaries, clinical papers and material for publication from either audio or copy typing.

Use judgement and initiative to prioritise the importance/urgency of particular requests within defined guidelines

Undertake daily peer audit of clinical correspondence to ensure a high standard of accuracy and quality of work.

Ability to exchange sensitive or contentious information with diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

Liaising with outpatient administrator re. Appointments and necessary important clinical information to ensure patients are seen on their pathway without delay.

To undertake other specialty specific duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures to facilitate the patient pathway

Ensure RTT patient data quality is accurate at all times


Adapt a flexible attitude to meet the needs of the service, taking into consideration each department's unique specialty and the subsequent requirements of such specialist services.

Provide cover for Patient Pathway Administrator colleagues during times of sickness and annual leave.

Promote an open friendly working environment

Adhere to Trust policies and procedures relevant to your position.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • 3 GCSEs or equivalent grade C or above must include English
  • RSA III word processing or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Proven typing and admin experience
  • Fast and accurate audio typing
  • Experience in using Microsoft packages
  • Can complete letters, forms, reports and tables using computerised technology from information collected
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient/client confidentiality
Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working in the NHS and experience using Webhiss, Medway PAS and Notis
  • Medical terminology
Communication and relationship skills

  • Must be able to clearly and accurately convey information verbally gathered from both verbal and documented reports
  • Uses correct grammar and spelling
