What do the roles look like?


As we ramp up at Collins Actuation Systems to meet the demand of our customers, we're looking to recruit several skilled shop floor roles for Grinders, Fitter/Testers, Final Viewers & Machinists.

You'll be based at Wolverhampton working in either our OE or Aftermarket divisions.

Depending on what role suits your skillset & experience, you could be turning or milling parts for civil aircraft, using a Studer or similar to cut gears for critical military operations at home and abroad.

You may be a _Fitter Tester_ assembling complex electromechanical components that will keep an entire flight safely on track.

You might receive a part back from an airline or the RAF which needs attention, so you will need to problem solve to get this part back into full working order.

Or you may be _a Final Viewer_ that will be looking at parts to ensure they meet the exacting quality standards and tolerances required within Aerospace manufacturing.


Whichever of these, or other, skilled roles you choose, you will be working on a shift basis (normally either double days or permanent nights depending on business needs and your preference) here at Stafford Road, Wolverhampton.

In order to be successful for the role, you must have an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant field such as Engineering or Manufacturing.

What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?

Machinist:


  • Working on a variety of machinery, including CNC and manual mills, lathes, millturns, grinders to produce precision components for both Aerospace and Defence industries.
  • Working flexibly across production cells where possible, learning other machining disciplines.

Grinder

  • Setting, operating and basic program / offset manipulation of 'External Cylindrical' CNC Grinders.
  • Use of integrated machine probe measurement systems.
  • Measurement systems and part validation.
  • Working with Manufacturing Engineers to introduce new equipment and parts and into the area.

Fitter Tester:


  • Evaluating, building and testing units and subassemblies using mechanical and electrical techniques as required by the appropriate media (Process Plan, Engineering Drawing, Product Acceptance Test etc.)
  • Use appropriate test facilities, perform required tests to the relevant specification recording results as necessary.
  • Be capable of performing any process or function within the repair route. Training will be given as required.

Final Viewer:


  • Ensuring all product is final viewed using the relevant drawings and specifications prior to said parts being booked into stores for use.
  • Recording of 'turn backs' (things that stop or hinder the process) to ensure process improvements can continue.
  • Performing any process or function within the repair route. Training will be given as required.

What skills are we looking for?

Essential skills:


  • Attention to detail.

Desirable skills:


  • Aerospace, Defence or Military experience.
  • Enjoy working in a team environment.
  • Experienced in reading engineering drawings.
  • A desire to do the best they can each day.
  • HM Forces personnel making the transition from Military to Civvy Street are especially welcome.
