The Role:


Estates Assistant - Full Time | Permanent
37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week.

The role requires Saturday working on a rota basis (either 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 Saturdays to be worked - no Sunday work)

Usually 8am-4pm with 30-minute unpaid lunch break, but this may vary.


Job Purpose:


This job is of a hands on nature to facilitate the proper functioning of the school to ensure a safe and satisfactory working and learning environment.


Accountable to:

The Facilities Co-Ordinator.

The Facilities Co-ordinator is responsible for day-to-day line management of the Estates Assistants and along with the Head of Facilities also responsible for the work allocation for the facilities team.

The position holder will be expected to become involved in a range of work on occasions that may not be shown below:

School Estate and Grounds

Work with the wider facilities team to maintain the buildings and grounds of the school.


Required tasks will include:


  • Painting and Decorating of school premises.
  • Supporting the Maintenance Technicians in the performance of maintenance tasks.
  • Supporting the Compliance Technician in the performance of compliance management.
  • Ensuring that all paths and external areas are clean, clear of debris and maintained throughout the year (clear of ice and snow in the winter)

Caretaking:


Work with the wider facilities team:

  • To ensure that rooms are set-up as required for school and other uses.
  • To perform any porterage tasks
  • To open and lock school's facilities as required
The School's facilities are hired to various groups in the evenings and at weekends.

The role will include locking and unlocking of school buildings on a rota basis either 1 in 3, or 1 in 4 Saturdays (no Sunday work) and assisting and directing the users of the school's facilities.


Road Safety:


Work with the wider facilities team a rota basis to ensure that a road crossing which splits the school campuses is manned at peak and other times to allow the safe crossing of pupils.

Safeguarding

Adhere to school policy on safeguarding and child protection training as required.


General Requirements of the Role:


  • Work with the wider facilities team to undertake other duties that may be required of the department including occasional minibus driving.
  • Undertake all training courses as necessary to carry out duties and undertake any other tasks, as directed by the Facilities coordinator and the Head of Facilities, which are not included in the above, but are consistent with the role.

Health and Safety Duties:


  • To ensure that all faults or potential hazards are dealt with appropriately or if unable to make safe, ensure they are reported immediately to the Head of Facilities.
  • To carry out all duties in accordance with health and safety legislation and the school's health and safety policy.
  • To help ensure that all visitors/contractors wear appropriate security passes when working in school premises or on school grounds.
  • To report anything or anyone suspicious on school grounds.
St George's School for Girls is an independent, all-through school in Edinburgh. It caters for approximately 800 girls aged between two and eighteen.
