We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Clinical Trial Assistant to join our team at the St Bartholomew's Hospital, located in West Smithfield, EC1A 7BE.

St Bartholomew's Hospital (Barts), is a leading, internationally renowned teaching hospital based in the City of London.

They offer a full range of local and specialist services, which includes centers for the treatment of cancer, heart conditions, fertility problems, endocrinology and sexual health conditions.


Job Summary
The Clinical Trial Assistant is an ongoing, patient facing role within the Breast Imaging department at St Bartholomew's Hospital. Working hours will be 37.5 hours between two shifts Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 17:00pm and 9:00am to 17:30pm.


Requirements:


  • NHS / administrative experience
  • GCSE / A Level or equivalent
  • The ability to work independently and prioritise workload
  • Customer service skills speaking to patients and colleagues face to face and over the phone
  • Knowledge of IT systems including Microsoft Office packages

Responsibilities
Establish strategies for recruiting participants into clinical studies and identify individuals potentially eligible for research studies. Gain permissions for research contacts.

  • For specific studies post holder may be delegated to obtain consent from participants in line with Trust policy and research protocol.
  • Organise appointments and conduct telephone followup calls, as required.
  • Report any adverse events or health concerns which occur whilst the participant is taking part in the study, to an appropriate doctor or nurse in a timely manner and to the appropriate principal or coinvestigator.
  • Provide ongoing support to the participant and carer whilst participating in the clinical study.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with senior medical staff, nursing, pharmacy, radiology, and pathology and laboratory staff.
  • Send GP letters or other trial related material to relevant parties.
  • Arrange, attend, and record minutes for research and other relevant departmental meeting.
  • To schedule new and follow up appointments and to assist in reception duties as and when required by the service, ensuring that national and local targets are achieved and maintained.
  • Maintaining electronic filing systems.
  • To support department research activities and provide immediate support to the Deputy Delivery Manager
  • To report any concerns to the line manager relating to significant changes in the service user's health and support needs.
  • To contribute to the service user review process, along with the service user assessor and all other involved parties, by using your knowledge of assisting the service user in meeting the desired outcomes
  • To ensure that information is kept securely.
  • To ensure any necessary information is disseminated in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • To develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with the Directorate, Division and Trust.
  • To ensure all requests via paper or order comms have been entered onto the system and that all patient details are validated prior to scheduling.
  • To work closely with IEP (Imaging Exchange Portal) team to ensure that information regarding previous scans is sent in a timely fashion.
  • To carry out other appropriate delegated duties as required.
  • Act with integrity and as a good example, at all times.
  • Contribute positively to new ways of working and participate in modernisation initiatives, this may incorporate a change in technology, environment, or system.
  • Undertake any training as deemed necessary
  • Ensure that all Trust, Directorate and Departmental policies / procedures are adhered to.
