Purpose of the Role
- Take the challenge of leading an engineering team and provide effective guidance.
- Build the vision of your Métier and involve the team in its implementation, aiming at continuous improvement in productivity and performances.
- Plan, grow and acknowledge team expertise.
- Be responsible for supervising, managing and motivating team members on a daily basis.
- Act proactively addressing projects and/or development commitments and collaborating with you peers for seamless and successful operations.
- As a Department Head, you will interact with all team members, so your communication as well as your motivation skills should be excellent. Your role will be to define the path for continuous improvement of performance and effectiveness of your team.
Key Accountabilities
- Define and implement engineering vision (team profile and skills, discipline evolutions in terms of technology, department competitiveness,)
- Set clear team goals, delegate task and set deadlines
- Provide support to team project/program execution
- Promote Alstom values to his/her team
- Continuously motivate, encourage, evaluate and recognize, train and develop resources, in cooperation with HR, as per approved performance evaluation process and targets
- Recognize high performance and reward accomplishments
- Develop the growth of World Class Engineering (WCE) Experts
- Secure the Alstom Communication process with the team
- Be accountable of Process, Methods and Tools deployment in his/her scope, and contribute to their improvement
- Provide to Reference Library Manager, Reference Library (cost structure & cost drivers) of his/her Métier / domain and improvement roadmap in line with Solution competitiveness roadmap + progress report, when applicable
- Foster the collection and sharing of REX from project/program execution
- Review workload forecasts and capacity, leveraging on subcontracting & business strategies as well as footprint objectives, and staff adequately Projects/Bids and Programs
- Participate to tender Design Reviews and Documentation Reviews as per tender strategy and relevance
- Commit in Project/Program/Tender Quality Cost Delivery (QCD) related to its Métier/domain
Key job authorities and dimensions:
- Staffing (hiring management, recruitment process)
- Budget (workpackages and capex)
- Department size can be assumed to range between 1050 people/15 M€
Performance management:
- Staffing: Total Capacity versus Workload, analysis and action plan, this in line with budget targets.
- Métiers Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
- Team maturity level and polyvalence
- Achievement of Competitiveness Targets concerning Ref Lib of métier/domain
Educational Requirements:
Mandatory:
Desirable:
- Master's Degree in Engineering or scientific topics
- Degree in Management or training in team leading will be an asset
Experience
Mandatory:
- Previous experience in complex development environment (railways, automotive, aerospace )
- Engineering and processes background
- Experience in project / program execution and management
- Understanding in execution effort estimation
Desirable:
- Knowledge of several Alstom platform
- Métierspecific background
- Experience in team management
- Involvement in projects with teams in other Regional and Development Centers, established
