Job Description - Animal Health & Agriculture Officer Trading Standards Service - Grade 6


We are an intelligence led service and carry out a variety of business support and enforcement work dealing with animal health & welfare and feed hygiene matters throughout Lancashire.

Our role involves the protection of the food and feed chain through enforcement of legislation relating to, for example, disease control measures and the protection of livestock on farm, in transit and at livestock markets.

We do this by receiving and acting on intelligence, responding to complaints and requests for advice, working closely with APHA and other partner agencies, carrying out inspections and audits on farms, at livestock markets, abattoirs and at feed and food businesses etc.

You must be comfortable working in this type of environment.


In this role you will be confronted with a range of complex challenges requiring you to use your problem-solving skills to identify practical solutions.

You will need to be able to use your initiative and be confident working as part of a team or alone.

You will provide detailed advice on the relevant legislation, conduct routine statutory inspections and sampling activity, conduct investigations and where required take formal enforcement action.

A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential.

With the relevant formal qualifications in Trading Standards or the ability to gain those qualifications, you will be ready to take on a new challenge.

You will be organised and have flexibility to work unsocial hours where required.

You will be able to deal sympathetically with members of the public, and businesses, while also being confident in your ability to handle difficult and challenging situations.
