Description

  • LCG is looking for a unique role as a Communication Support Advisor to support a Hearing-Impaired Learner by notetaking and lip reading. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, experience of supporting hearing impaired learners, including those with specific learning differences in education or the workplace.

Role Information

  • Work under the direction of the SENCO to coordinate the learning support service
- to support hearing impaired learners by using a range of communication modes, strategies and skills including lip reading and notetaking.

  • Have awareness and understanding of Deaf Culture and specific issues relating to education
  • To communicate and produce notes that are clear, for the individual needs
  • Work closely with learners who have an Educational Health Care Plan
  • Provide structured support using a range of effective interventions
  • Report on the effectiveness of the learning support provided within the Academy
  • Transcribe and Support with preparing materials appropriate to the
  • Advise and support tutors with making the necessary adjustments for learners with hearing impairments and learning support needs.
  • Carry out assessment of learning support needs including diagnostic testing and make recommendations for appropriate support
  • Agree learning support aims and interventions with the learner and set these out in a learning support plan that is shared with the learner and tutors
  • Ensure that Learning Support Plans and contact logs are updated accurately, objectively and timeously
  • Organise and attend regular review meetings with the learner and appropriate professionals'
  • Work with learners requiring learning support with the aim of maximising their independence in learning and reducing the level of support over time
  • Adopt a proactive approach to the adaption and production of appropriate learning materials to assist learning
  • Promote self advocacy and empower learners to manage their own learning
  • Liaise with learners and staff to identify alternative assessment requirements and provide support for specific assessment and exam arrangements
  • Ensure that the outcomes of review meetings are recorded accurately
  • Maintain records of liaison meetings with agencies involved in the learner's learning support
