About the roles
Our team is growing We have a number of roles to fill across our enabling teams.

You'll be joining a small, dynamic team of strategy setting Enterprise Architects, focused on the technology enablers that support all our colleague and customer services


For example:
Cloud, Infrastructure, Data and API services.


We collaborate closely with business and engineering leaders across the organisation to drive strategy, deliver strategic roadmaps, provide thought leadership and inspire innovative solutions.

We must view problems from many different perspectives and our architectural decisions must balance strategy with pragmatism to deliver the best outcome.


In the role, you'll be aligned to a technology enabler engaging with senior leaders, advising them on how to utilise technology to achieve outcomes and articulate options that balance the different drivers of change.

Business & Commercial Banking (BCB)


The BCB business provide all the banking needs for our Commercial customers ranging from sole traders all the way up to our mid corporates.

It covers a very broad range of products including traditional bank accounts, corporate cards, working capital management, loans, merchant services, asset and invoice finance etc.

This is a growth business for us with significant investment over the next 5 years with an ambition of being the best digital bank for business clients


Consumer Lending
We continue to be the UK's leading lender of mortgages, cards, loans and car finance and leasing.

This strength - packaged in our powerful online presence and strong brands - is the core of our Consumer Lending business.

seamless digital experience, with personalised products and services at their fingertips, equally we're making sure we develop high-quality experiences for anyone who wants to engage with us via intermediaries and partners.

Consumer Relationships
A major component of our strategy is to focus on a personalised experience with outstanding customer service.

To do this we blend the strength of our digital bank with that of our outstanding people, meaning our customers can choose how to bank with us and stay in the channel of their choice.


Our community banks, digital bank, customer services and customer financial assistance teams will thrive in this business unit alongside the focus Consumer Relationships will provide to current accounts, day to day payments and savings products.

The business unit will offer a centre of excellence for customer insight, customer data and analytics, brands and marketing. It is also the home of the new digital-led mass affluent offer.


Corporate and Institutional Banking


We support large UK-based clients and financial services organisations across the world, providing sector expertise across transaction banking, lending, global trade services and lending and Financial Markets.

We focus on supporting our clients in key sectors and have significant plans to grow our API ecosystem, digitise trade finance and modernise our financial and capital markets technology estate.

The Enterprise Architecture team have a key role in crafting the strategy and in supporting the delivery of the transition states.


Insurance, Pensions & Investments


As the only integrated banking, insurance and investment provider in the UK we have a unique opportunity to meet more of our customers' needs, helping them to become more financially resilient.


We have bold plans to sustainably grow our business, deepening our relationships with customers, corporate clients and our intermediary partners through developing new insurance, pensions and investment propositions.


With this growth agenda the technology and data strategy is key to delivering personalised propositions, securely across multiple channels with the agility to meet customer demands quickly.


Group functions

People


With a 80,000+ strong workforce it is imperative that we have the right technology to support our market leading colleague proposition.

With capabilities from talent acquisition, retention, skills and training through to reward and colleague tooling, an adaptable and cohesive technology capability is key.


Payments


We process ~4bn customer payments per annum and provide banking services to domestic and global banks to pay into the UK and Europe.

Through the modernisation programmes driven by local and global scheme operators, our aim is to redefine our landscape to prepare it for the future, using cloud native approaches.


Finance


With a broad mix of consumer and commercial banking services and a comprehensive insurance, protection and investment service offering, our Finance platform needs to be flexible and agile.

We're transforming our landscape to drive simplification and efficiency benefits, whilst also enabling the widespread adoption of strategic data products that can be used by the other areas.


Group Risk


In Risk our focus is on delivering transformational change that enables us to serve customers better and faster, helping Britain to prosper, while keeping the bank safe and resilient.

You'll have an especially complex mix of priorities.

Delivering credit, risk management services, enabling data-led risk management as well as providing ground breaking risk science capabilities and expertise to lead risk and regulation and drive business growth.

The new approach will help bring us together to work as one team, delivering our vision of becoming an Elastic Enterprise


About you


You're a forward‐looking and enthusiastic enterprise architect who can combine thought leadership, a passion for change, an ability to logically decompose complex problems and influence all levels of the organisation.


You'll typically have broad architecture experience spanning a variety of traditional, modern, and emerging technologies, ideally but not critically, in a financial or regulated industry.

You'll have a background in strategy setting, enterprise architecture or technology consulting roles. Ideally you'll have had experience in engineering and solution architecture during your career.

You define architecture direction in the context of industry trends and understand how that can bring value to the organisation.


Key accountabilities

  • All architecture decisions made for the area you support.
  • Build compelling architecture strategies and roadmaps with comprehensive inputs from Business, Engineering, Operations, Industry and Vendors.
  • Proactively drive forward the agenda to simplify and modernise our technology landscape.
  • Keep pace with the latest industry direction and vendor offerings to ensure our strategies capitalise on new opportunities.
  • Influence our investment portfolios and the direction of major change programmes to ensure strategic architecture outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships and credibly communicate with key business and engineering collaborators across the organisation including CxOs.
  • You're an authority for an architecture domain with deep and broad knowledge of technology, methodology and assurance techniques.

Desirable technical experience:
Broad experience covering many of the following, with a deep knowledge of at least one ('T' shaped)
:

  • Cloud platform technologies covering IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services on Azure, GCP and AWS.
  • Hybrid hosting architecture of cloud and tradition platforms including Midrange Unix and Mainframe technologies.
  • API architecture standards including OpenID Connect profiles, API gateways, microservices including event driven architectures.
  • Data trends including relational, NoSQL databases, data warehouses and data lakes.
  • Designing critically important systems which have challenging service parameters, for example RPO/RTO Zero.
  • Modern progressive technologies e.g., machine learning, artificial intelligence, block chain etc.
