We have an exciting opportunity to join our leading-edge Graduate programme for a Graduate Environmental Advisor in the North East with a start date of September 2024

About the project
Working for and on behalf of bp, we will be at leading edge of the UK's net zero transition.

Through NEP, bp is leading development of the East Coast Cluster, which aims to decarbonize the Teesside and Humber regions and establish a platform for economic growth.


Purpose of the role:


To assist the Contract SHE functions and support the development of Environmental solutions to enable the Contract / Operational Teams to implement the SHE Management System.

To gain experience, knowledge and develop relationships with stakeholders, whilst maintaining an independent and objective view of Environmental Performance on the Contract.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities:


  • Assist and support the SHE and Contract Operational and Supply Chain Teams and develop relationships with Stakeholders to successfully implement the SHE Management System
  • Assist and develop skills to enable the future delivery of training, to allow the contract team to successfully implement the SHE Management System
  • Assist and support the SHE, Contract Operational and Supply Chain Contractors in the delivery of the Contract Environmental requirements
  • Assist and actively support the delivery of the annual Contract and Group SHE Objectives
  • Assist and actively engage with the Contract Environmental Assurance programme to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements
  • Actively assist with the investigation of all unplanned events and close out of assurance findings, ensuring lessons are shared in accordance with the SHE Management System
  • Assist with the timely reporting, analysis, and use of Environmental data to support and influence the Contract Leadership Team

Costain's Graduate Development Programme

The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and of course, the technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job, the programme will provide you with specific technical training for your specialised discipline.


The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond.

We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months, to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by the company.


Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way.

In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership.

Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.


Extra information

Please note that for some of our roles, and in order to rotate around the business as part of the graduate scheme, you may be required to obtain and maintain security clearance of at least Security Check level (or SC clearance).

To satisfy the requirements, you will need to have been a legal UK resident for a minimum of 5 years and be able to successfully complete the vetting process.


About you

Essential:


  • Environmental related experience
  • Environmental related degree & IEMA Associate Qualification or equivalent NVQ
  • Affiliate Member IOSH or Affiliate Member IEMA or equivalent
  • Excellent organisations, communication and time management skills
  • Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets
  • IT proficient
  • Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team
  • A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction
  • Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships
  • The ability to thrive in pressured situations
  • The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances
  • Mobility to work on various projects over the 2year programme throughout the UK
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential

Desirable:


  • Relevant SHE experience in construction/engineering industry
  • Tech IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent

As some of our project sites are based in remote locations, it is worth noting that you will be required to have the ability to travel to site.
