The Role:

The City of London Police is currently looking for a Vetting Officer to join our Professional Standards Department.

Supporting the Force's Vetting Unit ensuring that systems, processes, and practices are maintained and supported in accordance with relevant best practice, policy, and legislation.

Ensuring that individuals working with or for the Force have highest level of integrity to guarantee that they do not pose an undue threat to the security of the police, government or sensitive information, systems assets, premises and persons.


Essential Skills:

Proven excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills to be able to:

  • Deal confidently and effectively with people at all levels across the social spectrum and from all backgrounds.
  • Establish a high degree of trust, rapport and cooperation with individuals.
  • Demonstrate a high level of empathy and sensitivity with colleagues and applicants.
  • Be confident and articulate in all communications i.e. face to face, telephone and written work.
  • Address groups and individuals, deliver messages and answer questions concisely with sound factual reasoning.
  • Ability to act on facts and be objective, unprejudiced, and impartial in dealing with others and forming dispassionate interpretations, having regard for the law, relevant guidelines and 'best practice.'
  • Ability to be perceptive, assess character, interpret behaviour and identify the motivation of individuals.
  • IT skills to a level that will allow the post holder to proficiently operate and interrogate computer systems used by the City of London Police. This will include non windowsbased systems.
  • It is essential that the post holder be prepared to undergo a rigorous security clearance process and to undertake any appropriate development training considered necessary to both gain and improve the level of expertise required for the post.

Knowledge

Experience
Knowledge of the wider policing structure and procedures of the personnel security/vetting process is desirable.


It is essential that the post holder be prepared to undergo a rigorous security clearance process, or already hold MV/SC and to undertake any appropriate development training considered necessary to both gain and improve the level of expertise required for the post.
