Job Overview

The resuscitation service supports the recognition and effective response to deteriorating patients of all ages. We do this through clinical, operational, educational and governance activity throughout the Trust.


We have a vacancy for an experienced, skilled and enthusiastic health professional with demonstrable involvement and interest in resuscitation practice, education and/or the care of deteriorating patients.

To ensure an effective resuscitation service is provided for all patients across all Trust sites.


With support from the Senior Resuscitation Practitioner and colleagues ensure day to day operational running of the site on which they are located (the main base will be the Horton Hospital but with opportunity to gain experience on other sites), working with senior colleagues to implement any service improvements which may be required.


Lead and guide the Assistant/ Support Practitioner Team using knowledge and skills to advise and support them in their day-to-day practice.

Develop and promote a 'knowledge rich enquiry culture' where research values are fostered, promoted and encouraged.


The Trust's Resuscitation Service covers the four hospital sites with a team of Resuscitation Practitioners and clinical and admin support staff.

We are a small but strong and highly motivated group who together have many years of experience caring for acutely ill and deteriorating patients and supporting colleagues through our clinical involvement, education and by always working to improve systems for the benefit of our patients and colleagues.

We have bases on each of the hospital sites.

The site-based practitioners have built excellent relationships with the clinical services on their sites and are strongly committed to supporting their local colleagues whilst working as part of the wider department team to provide education and Trust wide resuscitation activities and projects.

The team work very closely together and care for each other as individuals and colleagues.


he post holder is part of the Resuscitation Practitioner team and will work in collaboration with fellow practitioners and the senior team to ensure a high-quality Trust wide service.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day running of a Trust site supported by the Senior Resuscitation Practitioner.

The post holder will be responsible for key elements of service provision, in particular the delivery of high
- quality clinical care and delivery of resuscitation education.


The post holder will provide a highly visible and professional presence, supporting the management of emergency events, debriefing and learning from resuscitation related incidents.

The post holder will have direct managerial responsibility over a member of the Resuscitation Assistant Practitioner team on one site and will support the development of this group.

Main responsibilities

Guide and support an emergency team in the management of 2222 calls Utilise knowledge and expertise at resuscitation events, review the care provided by teams and support any learning points

Initiates and develops effective relationships, demonstrating the value of the Resuscitation Practitioner role within the multidisciplinary team.


Work with managers and clinicians to optimise the uptake of resuscitation for all staff groups in line with current Trust and national requirements.


Supports systems for collecting and reviewing patient/service information, working with key clinical teams to interpret information, identify and implement actions.


Recognise the critical importance of wellbeing in self and others, seeking to identify and manage stressors or pressures to promote health and wellbeing.
