What does aMechanical and Electrical Commissioning EngineerApprenticeship involve?
Our Mechanical and Electrical Commissioning Engineers have a passion for practical and hands on Engineering. They are interested in how and why things work and in finding solutions to problems on site.

These Engineers are a vital part of making sure ourassets (e.g Treatment Plants) run the way they were designed to.

Once our assets are built they need to be set up and tested in order for them to work, this is where our Commissioning Engineers take control.

They make sure all the electrical and mechanicalcomponents and automated control systems, are set up and tested making sure they operate correctly and are safe to hand over to their colleagues to run and maintain.


Your first year will be spent on a fully expensed residential course at Grantham College with the other new apprentices.

During college holidays, you will spend time at your work base, getting to know your new team and start on the job training.

During years2 and 3, you will continue block release, but spend the remaining time on our sites acquiring practical skills, under the direction of an experienced Commissioning Engineer, mentor and manager.

Years 4 & 5 will be work based with a focus on commissioning yourown projects in Year 5.


To be successful as an Anglian Water Apprentice you will require:

  • An enthusiastic nature, a willingness to learn & team spirit
  • A passion for practical work and technical thinking


As well as the above, you'll need a full UK driving license?(or be able to obtain one in the first 9 months of being successful on the apprenticeship scheme) along with living within a 30-minute radius of the advertised area, or within the circumferenceof the area the Apprentice will cover.
