Our JAG accredited Broomfield Endoscopy Unit, has the opportunity for a Medical Equipment and Decontamination Lead to join its small, friendly inclusive team covering all aspects of our endoscopy service, to help ensure that we continually improve the quality and safety of the care provided, maintain a strong focus on ensuring patients have a positive experience, performing gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy and more complex procedures such as ESD,EUS and EMR.

Your role will be to access, plan, implement, evaluate, holistic, high quality and individualised care which respects patient personal dignity and beliefs whilst maintaining a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff and promoting effective communication within the care team and with colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors


You will act as a mentor to students and newly qualified staff including teaching and assessing, within their realm of competence, upholding the philosophy of evidence based practice and assist in the management of the ward budget and ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained advising of any shortfalls and taking action appropriate to their level of expertise whilst maintaining a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies.


Your role, working under the supervision of a Senior Nurse, will be to carry out pre, peri and post endoscopy care for patients including ensuring accurate information regarding procedure is given to patients both verbally and in writing, patient safety during an endoscopy procedure, care of sedated and non-sedated patient and recovery post procedure.


You will also be ensure patients are discharged with accurate and sensitive information is given to patients in a way appropriate to their level of understanding, that policies are adhered to in the event of any post endoscopic complications.

and you have an understanding of the unit policy regarding guidelines for all newly diagnosed cancer patients.


You will become technically competent and clinically effective in assisting with endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures assisting the endoscopist during each procedure, having ensured appropriate equipment is available.


Your role involves on call shifts in the evening during the week and 24 hours over the weekend to ensure cover for any emergency bleed within the hospital which you should be prepared to cover once your competency has been completed.
