We are looking for a highly organised, experienced and adaptable individual to join our team at Defence Medical Services Head Quarter Group, Lichfield as a Higher Executive Officer (HEO) Project support Officer.


The Defence Medical Services (DMS) is responsible for the planning and delivery of safe and effective healthcare to armed forces personnel and their entitled families, in the UK and abroad.

Its mission is to promote, prepare, sustain and restore optimal physical, mental and social well-being of Service Personnel, maximising fitness for role, to contribute to deployed operational capability.


The DMS continually aspires to improve and transform, modernising approaches, in step with Defence and the wider healthcare sector, aiming to improving patient outcomes, increasing deployability of armed forces personnel, improving the working experience for our people, and delivering value for money to the British taxpayer.


This role is 37 hours per week, request to work flexibly or Part Time will be considered, taking into account business needs.

The post is being advertised as Fixed term appointment (FTA) and will end on 31st March 2025.


Job description:


On a day-to-day basis, you will be supporting your designated Project/Programme Manager(s) in the planning and delivery of key projects, ensuring objectives are clear and defined; delivered to approved standards of time, cost and quality.


Whilst working within a (and being supported by) a designated team, you will also be supported by a network of PSOs to share best practice, and to learn and improve together.

You will also be supported by the DMS Transformation Office throughout, enabling you to carry out your duties confidently and successfully.


Person specification:

Duties and responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Maintaining the Project Plan, including supporting documentation and Change Control functions, to ensure plans are valid, up to date, in line with approvals and compliant with P3M Programme Methodologies.


Effective management of all levels of the project plan including high level milestones, programme plans (including multiple workstreams), through to day-to-day activity and task planning with team members.


Drafting project reports for Project/Programme Manager approval, capturing progress, key risks and issues for escalation, to ensure leadership are informed of progress and receive timely information with which to make decisions.


Managing the project Risk, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies and Opportunities processes, tools and logs, escalating Risks where appropriate (under the guidance of the project/programme manager) and maintaining mitigation plans.

Essential Criteria:
The Job Holder must be able to demonstrate**A good understanding of Programme/project management methodology

Have a high standard of written and oral communication

Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise work.

Strong planning & coordination skills; attention to detail; understanding of complex information.

Experience of deploying Governance techniques, including effective management of plans, risks, issues, and dependencies

Communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organisation using excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Excellent organisational skills, working with multiple priorities in an ever-changing/ fast-paced environment

A good understanding of the use of P3M Programme Methodologies

Desirable, experience of using Microsoft Project
