Description
We are seeking a Trust Senior Clinical fellow (ST4-8 equivalent) in Neonates. The post is to commence as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.

There is a dedicated consultant of the week system for the neonatal unit with daily consultant led ward rounds.

There is also a dedicated consultant on-call for the neonatal unit with separate middle grade tier for the neonatal unit and general Paediatrics.

Training would be provided in all aspects of neonatal medicine including HFOV and nitric oxide therapy.

There are weekly grand rounds, journal clubs, audit meetings and cranial ultrasound teaching sessions. In addition there are also regular perinatal mortality and morbidity meetings with Obstetric colleagues.

A summary of clinical duties is below:

  • Attending to neonates admitted to the Neonatal Unit.
  • Conducting ward rounds
  • Assisting and supervising the Tier 1 (ST12/FY2) doctors in managing cases, attending or admitted to the NICU.
  • Tier 2 on call duties out of hours for neonatal emergencies and continuation of care of patients on the NICU.
  • Attending deliveries of extremely premature neonates, high risk deliveries and their immediate and after care management on the NICU.
  • Communication with parents.
  • Supervised outpatient clinical duties.
  • Cover for unexpected short term sickness of a colleague.
