In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary liver transplants programmes at University Hospitals Birmingham and Birmingham Children's 'Hospital the post holder will participate in the coordination and provision of a nationwide recipient organ donation programme.

The post holder will participate in a 24 hour on call rota/service coordinating patient enquiries and assume responsibility for the coordination of the National Organ Retrieval Service as required.


The programme will cover liver, liver and kidney, paediatric small bowel and split liver transplantations and the live liver donation service.

As part of a team the post holder will practice in line with the UK standards for Recipient Co-ordinators, he / she will provide specialist nurse led individual care to patients, their families and carers throughout the transplant process, There is a strong commitment to education and health promotion as well as a supportive role for the transplant recipients and their families in the short and long term.

To facilitate the coordination of the Birmingham organ retrieval team, as part of the National Organ Retrieval Service.


When new to this role the post holder will be initially mentored and supervised by a senior member of the team (unless the post holder has previous experience as a recipient transplant coordinator).

The post holder is expected to work towards key competencies in order to progress to and function at a safe level within a 6 month time frame.
