Job summary:


The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has been set up to provide health security and health protection for the nation by protecting from infectious disease and external hazards. We will act like no other organisation previously to mitigate threats to health before they materialise.

UKHSA will build the nation's health resilience and security, strengthening our ability to detect and monitor infectious diseases and external threats to health. Using robust evidence and world-leading expertise, we will go deeper to analyse threats to health, and how best to prevent and control them.

You will be joining the Environmental Hazards and Emergencies (EHE) Department, in the Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards Directorate, which provides authoritative scientific advice to government, the NHS and other bodies about the public health effects of acute and chronic chemicals exposures and the impact of other environmental hazards.

  • Three geographically dispersed teams (North, Midlands, South) operating from nine locations providing specialist advice at local and national level on the public health impact of acute and chronic noninfectious environmental exposures.
  • Two Groups; the Air Quality & Public Health, Noise & Health groups.


The role sits within the Air Quality and Public Health Group and will support its objectives to ensure that DHSC, other government departments, the public and other stakeholders have up-to date information on the health impacts of air pollution to encourage behaviour change at every level, and the actions to take to mitigate against health impacts, including health inequalities.


The team are responsible for:


  • UKHSA's Cleaner Air programme to develop and share the evidence base on indoor and outdoor air quality impacts on health and actions to take to mitigate exposure
  • Improve on how information on the health in support of national and local government to reduce the health effects of air pollution.
  • Provision of highly specialist advice on the health impacts of air pollution nationally and internationally
  • Indoor and Outdoor air pollution research including, but not exclusively, through the National Institute of Health Research Health Protection Research Units.
  • Provision of support to the Department of Health and Social care (DHSC) expert committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants (COMEAP)

Job description:


  • Support the Project Manager to plan and schedule effectively.
  • Assist in producing project reports and support the Project Manager in maintaining project controls.
  • Organise project meetings and provide secretariat support including organising travel, preparation of papers, minute taking and updating the action and decision logs.
  • Implement and maintain the project file management using robust version control and ensuring GDPR compliance.
  • Maintain the stakeholder log for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as point of contact for responses to requests for information and signposts accordingly.
  • Support the Project Manager with monitoring project spend and assist in budget reporting.
  • Maintain the project asset register.
  • Maintain the project risk and issues log, escalating where appropriate.
  • An active member of the UKHSA Project Delivery Profession Community.

Location:


UKHSA offers hybrid working for its employees - this means that whilst the role will be based in one of our UKHSA offices, there will be opportunities for an element of working from home.

The balance between home and workplace working is to be agreed with the line manager, determined primarily by business need and in line with departmental policy.

Some business travel will be required to other UKHSA offices.

Business travel between base location and any other UKHSA offices will be covered under the UKHSA Travel and Expenses policy.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available.


Person specification:


Essential Criteria:


  • Awareness of planning, scheduling, risks & issues, governance, project methodologies and
assurance.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, with multiple tasks, in a fastchanging and ambiguous
environment, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Good organisational skills with the ability to develop and implement effective administrative
processes.

  • Experience of coordinating and facilitating events and workshops.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of the use of
different channels and formats for different audience
