This is a 2 PA post.

The post holder's duties will be based at the Churchill Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.

Oxford University Hospitals is the hub of the South 4 Pathology Partnership. The Department of Immunology is the main provider of diagnostic immunology testing for the South 4 Pathology network.

As a Consultant, the appointee will be expected to be part of the team providing diagnostic clinical support to the partner trusts in the South 4 Pathology network.


This post will work with clinical colleagues to provide an Immunology service within the Churchill hospital, reporting on specimens and providing clinical opinion.


The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

The appointee will be expected to participate in the daily Consultant laboratory rota that includes oversight for the laboratory and electronic advice service and participate in Clinical liaison.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the authorisation and interpretation of results either directly or through supervision of junior medical staff.

Clinical
The post holder will work within a team of consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive diagnostic Immunology laboratory service. The appointee will be expected to aid the consultant team in leading and maintaining direction of the Immunology diagnostic laboratory to provide a
cost-effective service, which ensures the high standard and quality of work.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the authorisation and interpretation of results either directly or through supervision of junior medical staff.

Teaching/Research

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations.

It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity.
The post-holder's contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review.

Clinical Governance

The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies.

Personal and Professional Development

The post-holder will be required to keep themself fully up to date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.

Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of
Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.

Management

The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust.

They will undertake the administrative duties associated with the
running of their service under the direction of the Clinical Lead, Clinical Director and operational
managers.
