The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring that patients who are on a 18 week Referral to Treatment pathway are reporting correctly on Trust performance reports, and if data is reporting incorrectly that it is rectified to improve the patient journey.

The post holder will line manage the data validation team, providing leadership and guidance on RTT principles, and manage the validation workload.


The post holder will have a key role and will need to exercise initiative, independent judgement and decision making to ensure an effective and high quality service is delivered.


The post holder will ensure that the data on the system is clean at all times and that training initiatives are implemented to ensure that the number of pathways needing validation are minimised.


  • To validate all patients that are deemed to have breached their RTT targets for the Admitted, Non admitted and Incomplete pathways to ensure that all RTT rules and Patient Access guidance has been applied.
  • To line manage the data validation team, providing leadership and guidance on RTT principles, and manage the validation workload.
  • To collect information required to support the monitoring of patients on clinical pathways using various hospital computer systems and liaising with a number of departments to obtain the relevant information.
  • To ensure that complete, accurate and timely data is recorded on the patient administration system and other Trust systems as required in line with local policy.
  • To work closely with the General Manager, Performance & Operations Manager and the Support Manager to ensure that the directorate performance reports contain accurate data.
  • To highlight when patients are at risk of breaching the RTT target and, if required, facilitate the earlier booking of outpatient appointments and diagnostic tests etc. by communicating with the relevant departments.
  • Works under constant pressure and within a frequently changing environment, whilst trying to deliver government and Trust targets.
  • Works with constant interruptions dealing with daily operational issues.
  • Must concentrate for long periods of time to ensure attention to detail.
  • Is required to analyse waiting list schedules on a daily basis.
  • To highlight potential process and system issues or gaps and visit directorate teams to educate accordingly.
  • To ensure all administrative staff involved in waiting list management are aware of and work within the Waiting List Management Policies and Protocols agreed by North Bristol NHS Trust.
  • Train staff when necessary, particularly new starters.
  • To meet on a regular basis with the Performance & Operations Manager and Support Manager to discuss issues relating to the management of waiting lists and to identify any potential problems or issues.
  • To have overall responsibility for the weekly validation of patients reporting in the directorate RTT backlog and to action accordingly on relevant internal reporting spreadsheets.
  • To respond to queries from the Operations team and Information Management team regarding validation of waiting lists, and coordinate the Specialty's followup and planned action to address these queries.
  • To manage and facilitate changes in working practice resulting from changes in government and Trust targets.
  • To highlight areas of incorrect data entry and work with these areas to educate and improve their processes.
  • To undertake specific project work as required, as directed by the Support Manager, Performance & Operations Manager and the General Manager.
  • To prepare simple training materials on RTT performance and deliver training sessions to admin staff.
  • To attend meetings, training and briefing sessions appropriate to the role.
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post, as directed by the General Manager, Performance & Operations Manager and the Support Managers.
