Head of College Residential and Responsible Individual

40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary range:
£49, £55,877.01 per annum


Plas Dwbl is a provision for Ruskin Mill Trust in Wales based on a 100 acre bio-dynamic farm at the foot of the Preseli Hills.

Building on the success of Coleg Plas Dwbl in North Pembrokeshire, Ruskin Mill Trust launched Ty'r Eithin, near Swansea in South Carmarthen, in September 2020.

Both Plas Dwbl and its satellite Ty'r Eithin offer Ruskin Mill Trust's innovative Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) method giving young people the opportunity to overcome barriers to learning, become skilled through doing real life purposeful activities, and engage as valued members of the community.


Ruskin Mill Trust currently offers residential support for students, providing _Practical Skill Therapeutic Education_ for young people aged 16 to 25 years who have a range of learning difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders and behaviours that challenge.


The Head of Residential Care will be based in Coleg Plas Dwbl in Pembrokeshire and its satellite Ty'r Eithin in Carmarthenshire.

Plas Dwbl and Ty'r Eithin provide innovative and experiential education for young people and adults with special learning needs.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the effective operation of the Small Care Homes / Adult Placement Scheme for young people attending Plas Dwbl and Ty'r Eithin.
  • Acting as the Senior Leader in charge of Coleg Plas Dwbl and its satellite Ty'r Eithin / residential provisions as and when needed supported by the College Principal.
  • Overseeing and supervising the Registered House Managers within the Small Care Homes and Adult
Placement Scheme structure, ensuring they are appropriately trained and supported.

  • Taking part in oncall management duties for all the care homes in the Coleg Plas Dwbl / T'yr Eithin small care home group.
  • Ensuring the residential provisions are compliant with regulation inspected by the Care Inspectorate
Wales and represent the seven Care Qualities of Transform Residential Limited and Ruskin Mill Trust.

  • Working collaboratively with the Plas Dwbl/ T'yr Eithin Principal and RMT Director of Colleges to reflect the quality of the service provided / expected by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) inspections.

This role will involve work during the evenings and weekends.

In order to be successful in this role you will:

  • Hold a relevant qualification to enable you to register with Social Care Wales and Care Inspectorate Wales is essential
  • Have a strong desire to support young people, have excellent observational skills, and the ability to problem solve and think creatively to enable our young people to reimagine their potential
  • Be a patient, caring, compassionate with a young personcentred nature
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage emotionally challenging situations, be a team player with experience of support work in both educational and residential settings
  • Emotional intelligence and resilience with the ability to react calmly in stressful situations
  • Be able to work flexible hours as this role includes working daytime, weekends, evenings and may require sleep over shifts if necessary
  • A Welsh speaker is desirable but not essential
  • Due to the locations of some of our team houses being a driver with access to your own vehicle would be advantageous.
