The Commissioner and Management Board have determined that the Met will be a data driven organisation.

This means treating our data in the same way we treat our people, methods, and technology, as a strategic asset.

The Data Office is the single place of accountability across the Met that:

  • Owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda.
  • Brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas.
  • Consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services.
  • Enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partners.

Job Purpose
The Data Assistant role sits within Data Foundations.

This is the Data Office's strategic lead on the core capabilities from the Data Strategy which are fundamental to effective data management, analysis, and innovation.

Knowing where critical data is (Information Asset Register), its value (Data Quality) and how it can be used enables other services within DDaT to work effectively and to optimise our exploitation of data.

Data Foundation services help the organisation understand how data is collected, stored, organised, and used across a multitude of operational and business functions.

Ensuring the safe disposal of data when there is no longer a policing purpose to retain is also a key priority, as is ensuring that we use data ethically and equipping everyone in the MPS with the right tools so that data drives making (Data Literacy).

Key Role Responsibilities

  • To provide admin support to the team such as managing diaries, team mailbox and maintaining team Box folders and schedules.
  • Supporting the team to manage records identified for preservation (physical and digital), alongside the APP on Archiving of records in the public interest, and any subsequent transfer to The National Archive.
  • When demand is high to assist in the review of relevant records management and supporting documents full training and support will be given.
  • Provide support to data collation and presentation including KPIs, identifying and recording risks.
  • Liaising with partners/stakeholders to support the team in providing guidance, identifying training gaps and business needs.
  • Provide regular review of team folders/files for appropriate retention.
  • Supporting communications with the Data Quality Team to manage allocation lists.
  • Assist in the review and upkeep of training and support material as required.
  • Provide admin support for the team any DDaT projects i.e., rota, materials, and logistics.
  • Maintain team information on MPS intranet.
