Description

We are looking to appoint a research assistant with a background in computer science or computer engineering to contribute to the delivery of an important package of work within a 6-month research council funded scoping project which will investigate the use of AI to enhance museum visitor experience, specifically in relation to biases in AI which stem from the colonial history of museum collections.

The project, led by Dr Joanna Tidy and based in the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Sheffield, brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers from four UK universities and a national museum who are the non-academic partner.

This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of an interdisciplinary team spanning Politics and International Relations, English, Computer Science, and Digital Culture, and contribute to knowledge exchange and impact with and for partners and stakeholders in the museums and heritage sector.

The role of the research assistant will be to contribute to work scoping a museum archive as the underlying data for AI utilisation and we are therefore looking for someone with skills in assessing data for use in AI processes.
