An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly skilled mental health practitioner to join Powys CAMHS as a Band 7 Clinical Specialist for Looked after children.

This post is an integral role in partnership working with Powys County Council, care homes, LAC PTHB and CAMHS and therefore the ability to form positive working relationships with partners is key.

In March 2020[1]there were 7170 'looked after children' in Wales. 16% of these were aged 16 or 17, within thePowys Teaching Health Board

  • 240 looked after children of which 55 were 16/17 years old.
The CAMHS LAC will provide rapid, proactive and responsive support to children's care providers in Powys.

This support will include advising on the best type of approach for the person and advising staff on managing symptoms and behaviors related to emotional and mental health.


The CAMHS LAC will provide on the spot person specific advice and bespoke education for staff to provide them with the skills and knowledge to provide safe and effective care and prevent escalation.


The CAMHS LAC will also be a link person to ensure safe and efficient t transfers between CAMHs and AMHS as well as those YP leaving care in order to best support their emotional health needs as they progress on to the next stage of their journey.
