Our client is part of a diversified international group, a leading manufacturer of specialist têxtiles with a long-established reputation in its' markets as a pioneer in technical, solutions-led products.

The small, privately-owned group has its HQ basedin Europe with additional manufacturing operations in the US.

The UK manufacturing site has a team of c50 colleagues (mainly in manufacturing operations) and is located in North Lancashire in the heart of the UK têxtiles industry.

The Group is focused on growthwithin mature markets and is reliant upon quality, reputation and manufacturing excellence as well as product innovation to maintain competitive advantage.


Key to the delivery of the planned growth is the appointment of an experienced
Product Development & Technical Manager, based within UK operations and reporting directly to the UK Operations Director.

Working closely with clients and the manufacturing and commercial teams, you will play a vital role in developing newproducts and improving manufacturing systems and processes as part of the business growth plan.

You will lead manufacturing trials and execute scale-up plans for new products as well as providing feedback and management information as part of a structuredproduct development plan which will play a highly impactful role in the development of the business.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Deliver the Product Development Plan for the business, including directly managing R&D
  • Report on and track new product road maps, ensuring effective comms and managing expectations
  • Review and improve product development project processes for optimum efficiency
  • Develop excellent working relationships with clients as well as commercial and operations colleagues
  • Work closely with partner suppliers as part of the wider Product Development Plan
  • Support manufacturing efficiency objectives via product mix, process improvement and scheduling etc
  • Product Development capability developed in technical product solutions for relevant markets (eg filtration, geotêxtile, medical or automotive)
  • Demonstrable NPD track record, inc. direct client contact
  • Technically qualified in relevant technical / scientific discipline
  • Minimum 35 years relevant product manufacturing experience, ideally nonwovens or fibres
  • Technically credible as well as able to drive system and "best practice" process improvement
  • Familiar with relevant Quality standards (ISO 9001:2015 & PPAP)
  • Credible, collaborative and teamfocused, able to work effectively within a small, dedicated team
