Description

This has been a very successful initiative that has been created specifically to afford post-foundation (or equivalent) doctors the experience of working in psychiatry, as well as the opportunity to develop special interests.

It is expected that these posts would appeal to someone who has an interest in working in psychiatry and would like to gain some experience of this whilst having the opportunity to have one day per week exploring a special interest relevant to psychiatry.

There is strong educational support with weekly timetabled hourly educational supervision, as well as support with personal development and a study leave budget.

Special interest sessions

One day of the week would be set aside for you to develop special interest sessions.

The range of special interest areas available within the trust include:
medical education, perinatal psychiatry, neuro-rehabilitation, child psychiatry, forensic psychiatry among others which we would be happy to consider. We will ask you for your preference and try our best to accommodate them.

Please note, we cannot offer GMC sponsorship for this role.

You would work into a vacant core psychiatry/GP/Foundation training post. This could include adult or old age psychiatry and inpatient or community posts. If appointed, you would be given the opportunity to indicate which posts you would have a preference for.

But service needs and post availability (especially if the post is highly competitive) would play a part in determining the location and type of post.

It is very likely that you will rotate into new posts after 6 months (contract permitting), in line with all the other training rotations.

Your role within the post would involve working within a multidisciplinary approach to provide: assessments (both of physical health and mental health) of the patients and contributing to the management plans of the patients.

If you work into an in-patient ward, your role would involve clerking of new admissions, initial management of acute medical problems and also the preparation of discharge summaries for patients discharged from the ward.
