Overview / Responsibilities:


Wood is currently recruiting for an Engine Room Operator on Mariner B on a fixed term basis until approx September 2023.


The Engine Room Operator is responsible for the safe operation, routine monitoring, and maintenance including the execution of the items in the preventive maintenance program assigned to the position.


  • Maintain and operate engine room equipment, including all utility systems (air, diesel, grey/black water, seawater, freshwater, firewater, HVAC, steam, thrusters, IG/N2 and bilge, etc.).
  • Maintain deck equipment, including fire hydrants, fire and foam ring main, steam and deluge systems etc
  • Carry out maintenance as defined within the Maintenance Management System in support of the maintenance strategy, including routine checks of the machinery, tanks, bilge, and pumprooms as directed by the superiors and in accordance with established system operational documents and ARIS procedures.
  • Use the Permit to Work system and develop risk assessments to ensure work activity is carried out safely to ALARP.
  • Respond to alarms and normal on duty routines
  • Ensure all relevant logs and reports are completed, signed and stored to ensure visibility of equipment availability and operation.
  • Ensure the installations Safety Case is supported, and that any safety critical equipment within the engine room, or deck are maintained in a manner which supports the barriers in preventing or managing Major Accident Hazards (MAHs).
  • Ensure that all equipment within the area of responsibility is being inspected at the beginning of each shift. Special attention must be given to equipment in operation and equipment required by the immediately impending operation.
  • Assist in fostering and maintaining a healthy safety culture onboard by exhibiting high safety standards in their own work activities.
  • Ensuring all work complies with the Companies procedures and policies.
  • Can assist in accident / incident investigations if required.
  • Carries out duties with due regard to Regulatory Guidance, both from a Safety, and Environmental aspect.
  • Assist during lifting operations when required ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in compliance with LOLER.
  • Liaise and run scopes with vendors involving relevant systems.
  • Carry out an Emergency Role as defined within the Installations Station Bill.
  • Work within the Competency Management System to provide evidence of personal Competency and assist coworkers as required.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Maintain control of spare parts and consumables, ensuring Maintenance Management System is updated accordingly.
The ERO shall have an in-depth knowledge of the following:

  • Diesel Engines (Particularly Marine)
  • Steam Systems
  • Compressed air systems.
  • Fire protection systems
  • RO plant
  • Refrigeration plant.
  • Cooling systems
  • IG and N2 plant
  • Thrusters
  • HVAC systems
  • Grey/Black water systems
  • The use and operation of the Permit to Work system to control work activities.
  • The Maintenance Management System that the installation operates (SAP)
  • Major Accident Hazards (MAH's), cause and effects.
  • The Safety Case for the Installation and the related Performance Standards

Skills / Qualifications:

  • A recognised apprenticeship, or training scheme in the Mechanical discipline (or Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch COC
  • Motor STCW Reg III/1 /
  • BOSIET / FOET
  • UK Offshore Medical Certificate
  • MIST
  • FGAS
  • Permit Vision Skilled Worker Training


  • Rigger Stage

  • Stage 1 Banksman / Slinger Certification
  • Hand Torque Bolted Connection (TMJI10)
  • Small Bore Tubing (TSBT)
  • Working at Height
  • K-Chief 700 Basic Course
