JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for ensuring that the Hospice Reception runs efficiently and effectively.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To work closely with employees and volunteers to ensure that the philosophy of welcome

and care is always extended to patients, families, and visitors.


Duties
will include:


  • Receive visitors to the Hospice in a courteous and friendly manner and direct them
appropriately

  • Welcome new patients and their relatives into the Hospice, liaising with the Nursing Team and ambulance personnel
  • Give initial support to distressed relatives, before referring on to the appropriate Clinical Team member or Family Support Unit
  • Operate the Hospice switchboard, directing calls promptly to individuals and/or
departments

  • Take messages as required and ensure that these are accurately recorded and passed
on promptly

  • Assist with mailouts as and when required e.g. franking post and envelope stuffing
  • Accept post on behalf of the Hospice and any adhoc deliveries e.g. flowers, returned equipment, donations. When receiving patients' gifts/flowers ensure they are delivered appropriately, liaising with the Nursing Team
  • Receive donations, completing the necessary documentation and liaise with the Finance and Fundraising Team
  • Ordering stationery for all Hospice departments
  • Operate the cash till and keep financial records as required by the Finance and Fundraising Team. Receiving payments for Hospice goods, small shop items, visitor refreshments etc.
  • Maintain awareness of forthcoming Fundraising Events, keeping the publicity of these uptodate and sell tickets as advised by the Fundraising Team
  • Assist the Facilities Team by keeping display areas of the Hospice clean, tidy, and well stocked, in line with hospice standards
  • Ensures supplies of Hospice information leaflets are available in the reception area
  • In the event of a fire collate attendance sheets and hand them to the Executive Team or relevant staff on duty
  • Undertake responsibility for Health & Safety and fire prevention in the Reception area
  • Undertake responsibility for security in the Reception area
  • Treat with confidentiality all information acquired concerning the Hospice, patients, relatives, employees, or volunteers

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE JOB:

The role will be required to possess excellent communication and listening skills. And recognises the importance of confidentiality at all times.


GENERAL:

To carry out and comply with the prevention and control of infection as per Hospice policies and procedures.


The post holder is responsible for safeguarding the interests of children and adults who they come into contact with during their work.

To fulfil these duties post holders are required to undertake mandatory training to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse, or neglect, or individuals at risk and to follow Halton Haven policies relating to safeguarding practice including reporting any concerns that they may have.


Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.

Co-operate with their employer as far as is necessary to meet the requirements of the legislation.
