Stroke is the leading cause of death and disability in the UK with more first time strokes occurring at an earlier age compared to 10 years ago (Gov.
UK, Stroke can be a life changing event for the patient and their families.


Our established Stroke/Rehabilitation Unit in Prince Philip Hospital consists of 5 Acute stroke beds in a separate unit and 24 rehabilitation beds.

We are committed to delivering the best care to not only our patients but also to their families, supporting them through what can be a traumatic event.


Stroke is a specialised area and there will be ample opportunities to develop your knowledge in both the acute side of stroke and the continuing rehabilitation process.

You will develop extended skills to enable you to work within the Acute Stroke Unit.

You will develop skills in multi-disciplinary team working.

You will be exposed to a very close working relationship with therapists such as physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians and medical teams.


We are looking for dedicated Health Care Support Workers to join our team who are passionate about delivering the best care possible, who have excellent communications skills and are willing to work as part of a committed and skilled multi disciplinary team, striving to achieve the best possible outcome for our patients and their families.


There are both full time and part time posts available, this will be on a shift working pattern including days and nights.

There is also the option of long day shifts.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties.

Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales.

We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:


  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
  • Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
  • 48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
  • Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
  • Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
