Role purpose

To provide comprehensive indirect tax compliance services to Arch Insurance across the UK and Europe and provide ad-hoc support to the UK and EMEA tax teams

Key Responsibilities

  • Initial preparation and filing of all nonUK premium tax returns in conjunction with external advisors, including the completion of regular reconciliations to ledgers
  • Preparation of tax authority information filings and other ad hoc requests
  • Support the Indirect Tax Manager with the preparation of quarterly UK premium tax filings
  • Monitor, review and implement process efficiencies and controls, and support the identification, implementation and maintenance of any tax technology tools
  • Liaison with internal teams, tax authorities, external auditors and advisers, as required.
  • First point of contact for insurance premium tax related queries including liaising with underwriters and brokers
  • Monitoring and keeping uptodate with premium tax developments
  • Assisting the wider tax team with adhoc tasks and projects across UK, EMEA and Group
Skills / Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and clear presentation of data
  • Good level of written and spoken communication
  • Ability to work under pressure, to manage multiple deadlines and to work as part of a team
  • The ability to independently organise, prioritise and manage several strands work to make best use of available resource to produce coherent, timely outcomes.
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach to developing strong working relationships with all stakeholders and the ability to manage conflicting views.
  • Confidence to ask questions/ challenge information provided and initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity.
  • A proactive attitude to identifying problems/ better ways of working and recommending/ implementing solutions.
  • A willingness to challenge yourself to quickly adapt to unfamiliar issues, systems and processes.

Qualifications:

Accounting/ tax qualification preferred but not essential if proven to have relevant experience

Experience

  • Insurance experience strongly preferred
  • Premium tax compliance and technical knowledge strongly preferred
  • Other indirect tax experience an advantage
  • Strong data analysis and data extract capabilities, in particular MS Excel skills essential
  • Familiarity with use of Microsoft Office software essential
