Role purpose

To provide comprehensive indirect tax compliance services to Arch Insurance across the UK and Europe and provide ad-hoc support to the UK and EMEA tax teams

Key Responsibilities

Initial preparation and filing of all nonUK premium tax returns in conjunction with external advisors, including the completion of regular reconciliations to ledgers
Preparation of tax authority information filings and other ad hoc requests
Support the Indirect Tax Manager with the preparation of quarterly UK premium tax filings
Monitor, review and implement process efficiencies and controls, and support the identification, implementation and maintenance of any tax technology tools
Liaison with internal teams, tax authorities, external auditors and advisers, as required.
First point of contact for insurance premium tax related queries including liaising with underwriters and brokers
Monitoring and keeping uptodate with premium tax developments
Assisting the wider tax team with adhoc tasks and projects across UK, EMEA and Group

Skills / Competencies

Strong attention to detail and clear presentation of data
Good level of written and spoken communication
Ability to work under pressure, to manage multiple deadlines and to work as part of a team
The ability to independently organise, prioritise and manage several strands work to make best use of available resource to produce coherent, timely outcomes.
A collaborative and inclusive approach to developing strong working relationships with all stakeholders and the ability to manage conflicting views.
Confidence to ask questions/ challenge information provided and initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity.
A proactive attitude to identifying problems/ better ways of working and recommending/ implementing solutions.
A willingness to challenge yourself to quickly adapt to unfamiliar issues, systems and processes.

Qualifications:

Accounting/ tax qualification preferred but not essential if proven to have relevant experience

Experience

Insurance experience strongly preferred
Premium tax compliance and technical knowledge strongly preferred
Other indirect tax experience an advantage
Strong data analysis and data extract capabilities, in particular MS Excel skills essential
Familiarity with use of Microsoft Office software essential
