This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional to join the new and innovative Enhanced Perioperative Care (EPOC) Unit.
This is a rapidly developing service which supports the delivery of holistic, high quality care to surgical patients at increased risk of adverse outcomes.
Main duties of the job
EPOC is a bespoke built unit, comprising of 14 beds cross-site of post-operative patients from a variety of specialties including Maxillofacial, ENT, HPB, Plastics, Gynaecology, Colorectal, Vascular, Upper GI, Urology, Orthopaedics and Thoracics.
Patients will be cared for at a higher level of care, 1.5, with staff caring for 2 patients at a time.
This unit will have input from various members of the Multi-Disciplinary team including Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Acute Pain Specialist Nurses, CCOT and Critical Care Pharmacists.
We are recruiting knowledgeable and compassionate registered staff to create a team that is dynamic and forward thinking who will have the multitude of skills we require to deliver holistic, safe and excellent patient care at a higher acuity level.
Working in EPOC will give you an opportunity to develop your skills around pre and post-operative care, wound and drain management, acute pain and epidural management.
If you are successful in your recruitment, we will offer an individualised training and support package and you will go on a local, surgical and corporate induction programme with opportunities to go on a pain management course, tissue viability and wound management course, supervisor training, link role training and the opportunity to join our Shared Governance council.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe main duties of an EPOC Practitioner include:
Delivering high quality holistic care to patients following major surgery
To facilitate efficient and effective care and communication between the team to ensure continuity for all patients
To actively contribute to developing the professional practice of the Clinical Support Division
We would recommend an informal visit to the EPOC Department to see this new patient pathway in operation and to discuss the exciting plans for the development of this service.
Qualifications:
Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration or HCPC registration part 1
- Evidence of further training and development
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in an acute hospital setting
- Experience of acute pain management
- Previous experience in Recovery, Critical Care or similar clinical background
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Previous experience using Trust software: Medway, Bluespier, NOTIS, Nervecentre
Essential criteria
- Experience mentoring students and new starters
- Mentoring or teaching qualification

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
