The team:

This role will sit within the Audience team and report to senior executives.

The Audience team spans social, SEO, video, syndication and the homepage, and works to maximise reach and engagement across every platform.


Job purpose:


The Evening Standard is looking for a creative content and audience specialist to take the lead in growing our community of registered users and managing the title's newsletter portfolio.

You will be responsible for increasing our loyal audience, leading our registration strategy and taking ownership of other registration and community-building opportunities.


About you:

The right person will be proactive, and confident to work independently. You will also attend editorial conferences with confidence and be able to influence colleagues into timely and valuable action.


Key responsibilities:


  • Taking ownership of our newsletter portfolio and promotion
  • Developing and leading our registration and communitybuilding strategy
  • Analysing newsletter performance data and adjusting content/formats accordingly
  • Guiding newsletter editors on best practices and offering content suggestions
  • Launch a suite of new newsletters to reflect our key content pillars
  • Work closely with our commercial team to secure newsletter sponsorship opportunities
  • Work with our data team to grow overall registrations
  • Offer new ideas on how to engage our audience onsite, including encouraging user comments
  • Provide weekly analysis on registration growth to the executive team

Key skills:


  • An understanding of journalism and the workings of a news organisation
  • Excellent written English
  • Confident presenting to the senior team and in news conferences
  • Experience of successfully working in a similar role at a similar title
  • A journalism qualification is preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with the Evening Standard and our audience
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate
  • Experience of working in a dynamic fastpaced media environment
