Description

The autism/learning disability peer support worker' for Croydon IST is a joint commission between South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services, Croydon Council.

The peer workforce is growing so it's an exciting time to join us. All Peer Support Workers receive ongoing training, monthly peer mentoring and group supervision.

Key Responsibilities:


  • To use lived experience to inspire hope that change is possible.
  • To share lived experience safely and effectively.
  • To share your own and other examples of lived experience of recovery or times when you have experience behaviours that have been challenging and how you overcome this challenge.
  • To work in a way that acknowledges the personal, social, cultural and spiritual strengths of the person.
  • To use a number of agreed recovery tools that are personcentred in a flexible way to support the service users.
  • To support the service users to understand the role of ASD, LD and mental health services and how they can support their treatment alongside other community resources.
  • To record information in a clear and accessible way.
  • To promote service users involvement in all aspects of their work.


To build and maintain professional working relationships with others in the multi-disciplinary team, to encourage open channels of communication and actively participate in the creation of an open and safe working environment that promotes shared learning, growth and development.

  • To ensure confidentiality and safe keeping of service users' records.
  • To be able to signpost to community and/or online resources and access appropriate mainstream and ASD, LD and Adult social care resources.
  • To be aware of ASD and LD stigma, low expectations and antidiscriminatory practice as appropriate.
  • To attend team meetings as appropriate.
  • To promote the role of peer support both within SLAM/CHS and Adult Social Care, through codelivery of presentations, workshops, and participation in Trust wide peer related projects and audits: and information sharing as required and as agreed with the line manager.
  • To take part in regular one to one supervision with senior staff and peer mentoring at SLAM
  • To take part in group supervision for peer workers at SLAM
  • To contribute and commit to undertaking an annual appraisal.
  • To complete mandatory training and accredited Peer Worker training course
