The Post:


This locum post is for 0.8WTE SNBTS Consultant Haematologist/Transfusion Medicine Consultant within the SNBTS Glasgow and West of Scotland (WoS) Regional Centre based on the Gartnavel Hospital site.

This locum opportunity has arisen because of short-term change in WoS SNBTS consultant staff availability and is anticipated to last 4 months.

The main duties will be within the SNBTS Glasgow and West of Scotland Regional Centre in the SNBTS Patient Services Division providing consultant-level Transfusion Medicine support to the SNBTS Clinical Laboratories, Clinical Apheresis Unit and supporting the SNBTS Transfusion Practitioners working within Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board.

The post-holder is expected to take part in the SNBTS National Consultant Rota for out of hours and day-time on-call.

Training will be provided for all the specialist areas where cover is required both in and out-of-hours. Time will be allocated for continuing professional development. Maintenance of CPD compliance of RCPath is mandatory as is maintenance of full registration with GMC.
Key Result Areas

  • To support the regional and national immunohaematology service based at the SNBTS WoS Regional Centre (Lead Clinician Jennifer Laird).
  • To support colleagues with the provision of the regional therapeutic apheresis unit and stem cell collection service based at the Beatson Cancer Centre, Glasgow (Lead Clinician Dr Kenny Douglas).
  • To support clinical transfusion medicine and provide clinical liaison services across the West of Scotland by working with Clinical Leads for Transfusion in non-SNBTS Blood Banks and other members of the Hospital Transfusion Team.
  • Work with Consultant Leads for Blood Banking, Immunohaematology and Clinical Apheresis to support local implementation of national initiatives.
  • Promote appropriate use of blood and blood components in collaboration with the Consultant Lead and the SNBTS Transfusion Team including quality improvement initiatives in transfusion medicine.
  • Support the transfusion medicine training of Haematology Specialty Registrars. Contribute to the teaching of medical staff, nursing staff, scientific and technical staff.

Qualifications and Experience

Location:

Glasgow & West of Scotland Regional Centre based on the Gartnaval Hospital, Glasgow site.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
