£37,336 to £40,221 per annum


Contract Type:
Fixed Term Contract until 31 August 2025 / Secondment until 31 August 2025


Working Pattern:
Full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday


Location:
County Hall, Chichester with hybrid working

The Opportunity


Working directly with a cohort of children we care for you will be an advocate for their voices as they progress towards their futures.


You will work alongside the Post 16 Advisory Teacher, where you will be accountable for providing accurate advice and information to colleagues, carers, and young people, in relation to post 16 education opportunities and further/higher education post 18.


Through professional engagement, consultation and collaboration, and the delivery of training, you will champion the education of children within social care involvement, by encouraging them to consider a child's presentation through a trauma informed lens.

Colleagues will then be able to reflect on their own policies and practice and how they impact on the experiences and outcomes of this cohort of children and young people.


The role of Post 16 Learning Advocate requires responding to case level queries from colleagues and customers, managing information with sensitivity and discretion, and actively seeking solutions to challenges and opportunities to enable stakeholders to improve their own knowledge and practice.


About you

We are looking for someone who is committed and passionate about inclusive practices in educational settings, who can lead and influence positive change.


You will be qualified with GCSE Maths and English and hold a Professional qualification relating to post 16 education (such as a Certificate in Education or a post-graduate certificate in post compulsory education).


To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Have emotional resilience.
  • Understand policies and practice, safeguarding, child protection and SEND.
  • Have an awareness of impact of disrupted attachment and developmental trauma.
  • Understand the theory of effective practice related to attachment and trauma.

About us

Our Virtual School, sitting within the Education and Skills Directorate, promotes the educational achievement of Children We Care For, Previously Looked After Children and those with a Social Worker.


The Virtual School covers approximately 650 schools and settings within West Sussex, supporting over 900 Children We Care For and offering advice and guidance to those involved with the education of children previously in care and with a Social Worker.
