Description
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in High Energy Astrophysics

The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of one year, but with a reasonable possibility of further funding.

This project will explore the physics of relativistic jets propagating away from black hole and neutron star X-ray binaries, specifically testing their observable properties against models developed for gamma-ray burst afterglows.

In this way we aim to advance our understanding of X-ray binary jets, in particular our ability to measure the total energy associated with the ejection, and in parallel test and refine the gamma-ray burst models against the exceptional data available for X-ray binary jets.

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in Astrophysics or a related field and ideally a strong background in high energy astrophysics.

Previous experience in the field of high energy astrophysics, X-ray binaries and/or gamma-ray bursts will be an advantage.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
