A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Clerk of Works to join a small team within an established organisation on a permanent basis.


The primary focus of this position is to plan, prioritise, control, coordinate and manage works from conception through to completion for planned and statutory compliant mechanical services on small works or standalone mechanical services projects and to provide client-side Clerk of Works services on larger projects.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To identify mechanical services requirements and assist in the preparation of specifications, and programmes and to ensure they are completed and recorded
  • To manage contractors with regards to all aspects of project works, both planned and statutory compliant, from conception through to completion
  • For minor works and in conjunction with the Projects Building Services Manager, prepare specifications and descriptions of works, obtain quotes, commission, manage and ensure that the works comply with the agreed standards
  • To audit contractors / suppliers' invoices and certify for payment
  • To understand and implement Health & Safety policies and requirements for yourself and others, commensurate with your level of responsibility within the Department to enable you to discharge your other duties and responsibilities safely
  • In conjunction with the Projects Building Services Manager, liaise with premises, departments and other estates staff giving advice on mechanical building services and proposed new installations
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of the contract through a detailed review of the drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and other related documents
  • Where required, maintain a diary of the progress of the works, mechanical services contractors' site resources, site visitors, weather conditions, delays and record any other matter relevant to site operations
  • Attend site progress meetings and provide reports to the Project Manager or Projects Building Services Manager
  • Carry out surveys of existing services and prepare written survey reports.
  • Monitor the quality of work as it progresses to ensure that it complies with the drawings / specification and good industry practice
  • Witness and record required tests and commissioning activities etc. as required by the specification, client, public utilities and/or statutory authorities
  • Liaise as necessary with statutory authorities in respect of inspections and approvals of work
  • Issue Clerk of Works directions on matters to be agreed with the Project Manager
  • Carry out inspections and prepare and manage the schedule of defects

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Education/ Qualifications:


  • Sound knowledge of building services installation and coordination
  • General Health & safety awareness to minimum of CSCS card standard

Work and other relevant experience (including training):

  • In depth knowledge of mechanical building services
  • Extensive knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation
  • Experience in effective quality control to ensure required standards are archived
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary construction team
  • Able to read and understand large volumes of documentation including drawings and specifications. Identify potential conflicts and monitor contractor compliance
  • Working knowledge of budgetary control
