Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Director and the Head of Programmes of King's Global Health Partnerships (KGHP), to support the design and implementation of health systems strengthening programmes that are impactful in our partner countries and that effectively engage with colleagues from the academic, health and international development sectors.

The five health partnerships in Democratic Republic of Congo, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, and Zambia, bring together outstanding staff and professional volunteers from our NHS Partners and King's College London to improve healthcare and its outcomes in our partner countries and organisations, by empowering people, strengthening organisations, and enhancing the health systems.

The postholder will support the design of new programmes, working closely with the KGHP Director, Head of Programmes, Partnership Leads and with our African partners, enabling the partnerships team to develop effective, strategic, and sustainable health systems strengthening interventions, while also influencing the wider development sector.

The post provides strategic and technical input across our health systems strengthening work, ensuring it aligns with best practice in health systems and implementation science.

It will offer high-level and granular insights into both the theory and practice of how health systems function, with expertise in hospital-based care and health worker training.

It will work closely with senior health professionals in our partner countries, alongside our Partnership Leads, to ensure our work is aligned with their priorities, strategies, and realities on the ground.

It will also strengthen our engagement with clinical volunteers and NHS Trusts in the UK.

The post will consider how our individual projects and programmes are sustained over successive grants to achieve structural and sustained improvements in health systems and help to define and articulate our approach.

The postholder will work with our Policy Advisor to engage partners to ensure the learnings from our work are shared and have wider influence on policy and practice across the sector.

They will also work with academics at King's to help integrate research and education into our programmatic work and explore ways to create mutual benefit for NHS Trust partners.

This postholder will work particularly closely with the Head of Programmes (HoP) on programme design and implementation.

This role largely provides clinical and health systems technical input across KGHP's work, but usually will not be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations.

The HoP provides broader development expertise and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating programme design and delivery (including grant writing, financial management, risk & compliance, and monitoring, evaluation & learning) as well as line managing the KGHP country programme managers.

This post reports to the Director of KGHP.

This post will be offered on a fixed term contract until April 2025.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

Part-time working would be considered (minimum 60% full time equivalent)
