MAJOR TRAUMA SERVICE TARN COORDINATOR with Administration duties

  • Full time
  • Substantive part time / Job shared considered.


The post holder will play a key role in the coordination of data for the Adult Major Trauma Centre (MTC) in the Severn Major Trauma Network.

Ensuring that clinical information from patient records for major trauma patients is extracted, interpreted and submitted in line with national deadlines, guidance and requirements for the Trauma Audit and Research Network (TARN).

Supporting the team with administration tasks. Some working from home considered after initial training and proven competency demonstrated.


The Major Trauma Service delivers a 7 day a week service, so some weekend working at home is required on a rota.

Work hours Monday - Friday, and during weekend cover.

The post holder may also have the opportunity to provide some support to the Paediatric Major Trauma Major Trauma Centre with TARN data submissions to cover emergency leave, this can be optional.


  • Data inputting and collection from patients notes
  • Completing database
  • Running reports
  • Liaising with other hospitals and TARN team
  • Supporting the Major Trauma Service with administration duties


The Major Trauma Service is a dynamic friendly team of professionals who strive to give the best care to patients affected by major trauma.

Southmead Hospital is the regional centre for major trauma care serving the Severn Major Trauma Operational Delivery Network.

  • Competence with using hospital administration systems
  • Lorenzo, EDMS, ICE, Care Flow etc.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of a patient's journey through their acute hospital stay.
  • Knowledge of hospital data based IT systems and web systems.
  • Knowledge of GDPR/Patient Confidentiality and Freedom of Information.
  • The ability to work with a very high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • An ability to process and check large sets of data and retrieve missing information from electronic and paper records.
  • The ability to input complex and lengthy episodes of patient care into the national TARN database.
  • The ability to run reports and produce data in varied formats.
  • To identify and resolve any discrepancies in the data, including with other parties.
  • An ability to liaise with and work within a multiprofessional team.
  • The ability to organise own workload to meet deadlines and to remain calm under pressure.
  • An ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative.
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels, using a variety of methods, and using tact and diplomacy where needed.
  • Ability to work in complete confidence.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet varying demands of the role.
  • The ability to identify and implement improvements on own initiative.
  • Previous experience of working within an acute health care setting.
  • To be familiar with the organisational structure of the Trust & the Severn Major Trauma Network.
  • Administrative experience.
