Are you looking for an opportunity to provide clinical dietetic leadership within gastroenterology and work with other dietitians to provide an excellent service to outpatients in gastroenterology and inpatients receiving parenteral nutrition? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent 0.8 WTE Clinical Lead Dietitian in Gastroenterology at the City hospital campus.

We are looking for an experienced, proactive dietitian with excellent clinical, communication, team-working and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job


Your clinical caseload in gastroenterology and nutritional support will include provision of dietetic leadership to the multi-professional nutrition team, which reviews patients on parenteral nutrition (outside of critical care) at the City Campus.

Providing dietetic advice and treatment to a shared caseload of outpatients with gastrointestinal disorders including Coeliac disease, functional bowel disorders and inflammatory bowel disease.

You will provide clinical leadership to other dietitians working in gastroenterology and surgery on City campus and work to develop and improve services together with other Clinical Lead Dietitians in Gastroenterology and Hepatology on both campuses, supported by a Specialist Clinical Dietitian in Gastroenterology, a Specialist Clinical Dietitian in Intestinal Failure and Therapy Service Managers for Dietetics.

You will be part of a dietetic team working in a range of other specialities and including dietitians, dietetic technicians and dietetic assistants, and will support the Team Leader to ensure effective and efficient service delivery, promote staff development and wellbeing, as well as providing expert knowledge and support for dietetic colleagues and for the management team.

This job will require working with inpatients therefore you will be required to wear the appropriate level of PPE.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced dietitian with relevant clinical experience, leadership skills, excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to take forward this part of the dietetic service.

Higher education (i.e. MSc level or above) is desirable. Please refer to the job description attached.


Main responsibilities:


To lead the team in the operational management of the service and contribute to the strategic development of the service.


To take responsibility for highly developed clinical reasoning in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients who may have a complex presentation and to determine clinical diagnosis and therapy management.

To monitor the performance of all staff within the clinical speciality.

To ensure high standards of clinical care within the team, through the training and development of staff.


To evaluate the effectiveness of the service provided and ensure improvements are implemented (in liaison with the Therapy Services Manager).

To be responsible for identifying training needs of yourself and your team in line with Trust and Departmental objectives.

To ensure that staff are aware of the need to maintain ongoing competence of all staff undertaking out of hours work where applicable.

To provide training and support to cover out of hours work within your area.
