Description

University Hospital Wishaw is looking for Lead Medical Secretary and Theatre Scheduler to join the team in the Surgical Department.


The post holder will supervise an administrative team of secretaries and administrative clerks, to provide comprehensive administrative support to a team of clinicians, enabling clinicians to operate effectively and efficiently.

Ensure the work of the administration team is carried out in accordance with NHS Lanarkshire's standard operating procedures.


The post holder will take primary responsibility for organising theatre schedules for your speciality (or specialities ) to make optimum use of the available capacity.

All work should be carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures ( including waiting time guarantees for patients).

The post holder will flexible and able to cover other sites within NHSL

A car driver is essential and must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job.

  • SVQ level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) plus at least 2 years experience as a medical secretary.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
  • Evidence of effective team working and dealing with change.
  • Evidence of good communication skills with patients, clinicians and colleagues.
  • Advanced audio typing skills.
  • Evidence of strong competence with relevant IT systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure.
