Description

Acorn by Synergie is seeking a HGV Mechanic / Technician to work for their well-established client based in Leicester, to work on a temporary to permanent basis.

The main function of this role is to service and repair of vehicles and plant in a safe, efficient and economic manner employing such skills and knowledge as may be required with due regard to current Technical and Health & Safety legislation
Pay - £14.43 to £15.58 per hour
Hours - 37 hours per week + overtime as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To drive and manoeuvre motor vehicles and plant as necessary, recovering defective or damaged vehicles, carrying out the full range of technical checks and diagnostic tests required for light & heavy goods, and passenger transport vehicles.
  • To observe, recognise and report on mechanical and electrical vehicle, component, or systems defects, or impending failure, assessing, recording and/or costing the repair (as appropriate)
  • To carry out routine inspections, service and MOT of all vehicles and selected plant in the fleet according to the schedules issued by the Workshop Manager, and in accordance with prescribed quality standards, utilising specialist services as required.
  • To examine vehicles, reporting verbally or in writing, (as dictated by the Senior Mechanic/Workshop Manager) upon the condition, roadworthiness and safety.
  • To carry out both mechanical and electrical repairs and/or adjustments as required, under the instruction of the Senior Mechanic/Workshop Manager to the prescribed quality standards.
  • To interpret and implement technical service instruction data, and manufacturers' modifications.
  • To maintain a personal tool kit, special tools and equipment in a good, safe, secure condition.
  • To requisition replacement parts/materials from stores in accordance with procedures seeking approval as required
  • To operate a safe working environment in accordance with policy, and to be compliant with, and apply, health and safety legislation at work for all employees in, and visitors to the workshop.
  • To assist the Workshop Manager to implement changes to business processes to achieve efficiency savings in line with the changing needs of the business.
  • To implement workshop schedules and loading to achieve maximum productivity as directed by the Workshop Manager
  • To ensure completion of all necessary accident forms and vehicle accident repairs and provision of any information subsequently required
  • Responsible for protecting and managing information securely, and reporting breaches or suspected information security breaches, in line with Council policies.
